Outwell Tent Tips

Practice putting up your tent before you go away. Regard this as an essential - it's far better you learn about putting your tent up and packing it away initially from the comfort of your own home.

Make sure your tent is well ventilated. Often, people think their tent is leaking wheras in fact what they've spotted is condensation, due to lack of air circulation. Especially, try and keep your tent well ventilated at night.

The flysheet is made of water-reppellent material. Try not to touch the inside of your flysheet (i.e. the outer wall of your tent), as this can cause rainwater to leak through.

Avoid using sprays such as insecticides inside any tent. This applies to ordinary household items like hairsprays too.

When striking camp (i.e. taking your tent down), try and ensure it's dry as possible. If it's not completely dry, take it out again when you get home and let it fully air-dry before packing away. This will help prevent mildew and, in worst cases, material rotting.

Consider using rock pegs or U-pegs if you think the ground may be hard or the weather's going to be windy. If strong winds are expected, replace the normal pegs with storm pegs.

We do not recommend that you cook within any synthetic tents but if this is necessary then please take the following precautions - do not place cooking equipment close to the tent sides and ensure that there is good continuous ventilation. Do not allow children to play with or near lighted appliances.

It is always useful to carry with you a repair kit as accidents or foul weather can ruin a great holiday. Your kit should include spare pole sections, guyline, pegs and a whole repair kit.

Do not set-up the tent completely taut, otherwise it will not be able to adapt to varying wind and weather.

Note that tape over seams can work loose after repeated use. Please note that the tape may come off after prolonged exposure to the sun. You can repair your tent by removing loose tape and use a seam-sealer and waterproof spray to re-seal seams.

Remove dirt from the tent with a soft sponge and clean pure water. Never wash the tent in a washing machine and never have it dry cleaned.
